The month has gotten the best of me…too. But just hot enough to grow some awesome INDIGO.
Yesterday I picked a couple of pounds of leaves from my garden and made a batch..
It starts out green,
but there is blue in those leaves….
Sacre bleu!

Hi Roxanne- I’m looking forward to trying some indigo dyeing one of these days. How hard is it to grow? Thanks for joining in this month. I’ve linked to you post from my blog.
Hi Julie,
I have found the indigo niche because SC is so warm and indigo loves warm. The process can be confusing, but I have had luck figuring it out. Any help I can give…with pleasure!
Looks like ordinary green leaves but how amazing they transform into stuff of twilight!
I am truly mesmerized the the entire process, from harvest to dye.
Love that you’re getting to experiment with indigo. It’s so odd to have it be green at first, but turn blue as the air (?) or sunlight (?) hits it. I’ve only done it once and that was in Velma Bolyard’s and Aimee Lee’s workshop in Cleveland last year. Some of the indigo dyed papers stayed green, some partially turned blue. Good luck!
Thanks, Jennifer. It is a real blessing to find a niche in this new landing place. Chemistry: model and metaphor.
